A figure sits idly in a comfy armchair with his cat, far away from the sounds of bluegrass and country, the city and technology. Idly sitting, listening to the sounds a house makes when it's alone and taking an occasional drag off a cigarette.
"I do spend a lot of time in my studio."
"Working on new material?"
"No, not always, I just like it there, it feels more like home."
Christopher Lee Sisk is entering a new phase as simply 'Sisk', which comes on the tail end of six years as 'Creature', that dark ambient and illbient flavor we all know and love. Creature was the brainchild of Sisk's first exposure to such seminal electronic acts as the Future Sound of London, Orbital, and trip-hop/new-pop acts Tricky and Bjork. Combining all these elements together, Creature was born.
The first release was in 1997, entitled 'Inside Us', and was the beginning of something building very quickly. Waves of sound collide against one another amid erratic beats and a chilling touch of synth to create a perfect expression of your soul. 'Inside Us' was followed in quick form by two EP's 'Something More Familiar' (1997) and 'Spiders Get The Flies' (1998), and the album 'Systems of Presence' (1999)... all, including 'Inside Us', sadly out of print. 'I'm Driving' (2000) was more of a continuation of "Systems of Presence' than a separate album. Taking the last track, expanding it to three parts and sandwiching an album throughout it. 'Sighs From Silence' (2000) was released as a single to 'I'm Driving'. Later that year came 'Subtle Change' (2000), an album that begins at a train station and ends asking if you ever left. A much more technological album, 'Subtle Change' explores the reality of our modern lives, both professional and personal. 'You're Walking Away' (2000) was released as a single. All these releases showed the continuing development of Creature, but it was all moving closer and closer to a goal that was moving further and further away.
What was missing was the real-life sound that Creature was supposed to embody. Over the next two years, Chris retreated to the studio, working on the occasional remix and recording sounds for his next album, to be titled '367'. He launched his web site, almost in frustration during production, which officially launched c367 Records and partnered with Project Aristotle Records in early 2002. A preview of the new album was found throughout the live '367 Show', but it still wasn't complete. 2002 finally brought about the finished work, and fans were stumped. The blips and acid had been replaced with winds, water, and earth - more lush, raw, and unrefined. It was then Chris realized that the Creature had finally set him free. Now, he was his own. He was just 'Sisk'.
And though the days of Creature are over, they are never forgotten. As Sisk rises from the mired studio he calls 'The Breathing Room' with two tracks on 'Project Aristotle: Year One' and his current offering: 'White Powder Bubbles'. He also played live with Robert Rich at ambientlive2k3 in Denver, CO. This live set will be released later this year on AmbientLive Recordings. From here, a new album is in the works with Project Aristotle Records, and he has also moved into other projects, exploring this newfound freedom from the Creature that drove him on and set him free.
